There is nothing mass-produced about the feel of this Double Doors Butterflies jewelry box. There is a pleasing balance to its design. The surface has a depth that only hand finishing gives. It brings a tactile pleasure that pictures cannot convey.
Layers of lacquer were polished smooth before the shell work was set in. There is a jewel-like quality to the red lacquer cabinet up close. A second look always finds something new in the birds. The peony and red lacquer cabinet are arranged with a craftsman's sense of balance. Painters chose the peony when they wanted to say wealth and honor without words.
It settles into serene Asian shelf styling like it was always meant to be there. For elegant Asian table styling, its subject matter stays relevant year after year. All told, this Double Doors Butterflies jewelry box delivers far more than its quiet surface suggests. The finish is smooth to the touch and looks richer in person than in photographs.
