Mao Zedong's poem in cursive script — the Chairman's famous calligraphy, bold and sweeping: the characters racing in the script's characteristic momentum, the poem's lines given the leader's unmistakable hand. Whatever one's view of the history, the calligraphy itself was widely admired — Mao's cursive has genuine energy, the brushwork of a man who wrote constantly and with feeling. It is history, in ink, the twentieth century's most consequential hand.
The sweeping energy is the style: large, confident characters, the brush moving with political theater's flair — the strokes connected, racing, the ink varying from saturated black to flying dry-brush. For readers, the poem's text — the verse's own momentum; for all, the spectacle of a historical hand, the cursive's momentum suiting the verse's own. Poetry as propulsion, politics as performance.
Historical calligraphy suits studies, collectors' walls, anyone interested in the period — a document of an era. Sold as the bare unmounted sheet, with no frame or scroll, it is ready for framing as you see fit. A sweeping, historical piece.
