You can tell a lot about a teapot before water ever touches it. Check the photos for the building-shaped body; it is finished neatly and sits naturally in the design. This is a 550cc pot, made for larger tea tables and generous pours.
The clay is red clay, a warm-toned classic of the Yixing kilns. In practice, no two handmade pots fire exactly alike — expect small, charming variations. Clay's fine grain gives the surface a smooth, almost silky feel; it is the kind of detail you only get from handmade work. In practice, compact size keeps water hot and opens leaves fast. The clay remembers every tea, so the hundredth pot tastes better than the first, which is exactly what you want in a daily brewer. Dedicate it to one tea family — oolong, pu-erh, or black — and the flavor deepens over months; it is the kind of detail you only get from handmade work.
Small investment, daily reward — that is the math on a good teapot. Daily drinkers, weekend brewers, and collectors will all find something to like here.
